Actually Amy Songwriting & Tuition Amy Clayton, Songwriter, tutor and musician Testimonials

Amy has been working with our Scout Group helping the Beavers Cubs and Scouts write songs on two 100 year milestones for us.  Amy has been highly organised and very inspirational to our young people. She is comfortable working with small and larger groups of youngsters and the results so far are brilliant!  The children are loving the high quality of the workshops and being able to see the pretty immediate results of their work and suggestions.  We are really looking forward to the finished product!

Ruth Jenkins - Chair 11th Forest Hill Group

Amy is an incredibly talented musician who believes that all young people should have access to the best musical experiences. Not only is she a first rate musician but she has a natural gift in relating well with young people. As well as working as a piano tutor in my music department, Amy and I have worked together on various song writing projects in Northamptonshire and I couldn't recommend her more highly'.

Lucie Diedhiou - Primary school Director of Music

"We love Amy's workshops. She has an exceptional combination of skills which make all the difference. Amy runs no-pressure, fun workshops, full of fun and creativity - but she also has all the music qualifications to provide high quality music too.  Highly recommended."

 Aly King-Smith - mother

"Amy ran a fantastic programme for our young people at the Garden Community Cafe. It was professional and very engaging. I saw the young people grow massively in their confidence during their time with Amy, so much so that at the end of the programme they sang the song they created at our live gig night in front of a crowded room."

Hannah Binley, Garden Community Cafe, East London

"I discovered Actually Amy Songwriting when my daughter had a superb day songwriting with Amy at our local holiday club. I was so impressed that I contacted Amy and asked if she could help create something special for my Brownie pack as part of our One Hundredth Birthday celebrations. Amy has such a natural way with children, everything is positive and she listened patiently whilst taking in all of their ideas. During just two, two hour, sessions Amy helped the Brownies write their own song, helped them design a front cover for the CD and then put the song to disc. I can't rave enough about what Amy managed to achieve with the girls!"

Jo Anderson, Brownie Pack Leader 1st Greens Norton Brownies, Northamptonshire

"Amy is a delight to work with. Following a very successful Holiday Club in August 2013 during which Amy worked with the children to write about Noah and the Ark, Amy facilitated a workshop for us in February 2014. The children were able to write and record a song about the difficult relationship between Joseph of the Old Testament and his brothers as they began to explore this story; our theme for this year’s Holiday Club. We look forward to having Amy work with us again in the summer."

Sue Feasey, Co-ordinator, Tove Valley Baptist Fellowship

"Thank you so much for teaching me over the past few years. I went from loathing to loving playing the piano and you were very kind and patient with me. Good luck with your business, all of your future students are very lucky!"

Rowan Watson - working towards Grade 3 piano.

"To be able to take what's in our heads and translate it into a song....
What a talent you are Amy."

Billie-Jan Hills, Director Khameleon Kompany

Billie needed a song to be featured in her weekly toddler classes.

"Amy Clayton from Actually Amy Songwriting worked with us on a children’s Summer Holiday Club; (mostly Key Stage 2 children) and took as its theme, the Biblical story of Noah and the Ark. Many of the children had no knowledge of this story.

The children warmed to Amy’s interactive style. Her persistence and patience produced a very upbeat, syncopated song incorporating every child's voice, to which the parents, when it was performed to them, went wild with enthusiasm.

We would certainly work with Amy again."

Rev Paul Knight

Tove Valley Baptist Fellowship, Towcester, Northamptonshire

“We are delighted with the progress Amy has helped our daughter to make with her clarinet – Grade 7 distinction with 30 marks out of 30 in one piece! She has also helped her achieve the position of principle first clarinet in the Northampton County Training Wind Orchestra. Amy makes lessons fun and is inspiring and encouraging. She doesn’t get hidebound with formulaic methods and develops individual musical expression. We are very happy.”

Alan Garriock (Isabel’s father)

"The children really enjoyed Amy's workshop on the theme of bullying. Her gentle, enthusiastic manner engaged the children; encouraging them to participate in whole class and group activities. Amy was very patient and positive whilst working with each group to record the part of the song they had composed, giving them all a great sense of achievement"

Mrs Lunn Y4/5 Kislingbury Primary

“For 'Paulerspury Summer Songwriting and Dance week' Amy was an excellent workshop leader, the collaboration with the choreographer worked particularly well. The young people involved found the week fun, challenging and interesting. Let's do another one!"

Sue Carverhill, Arts Development Officer at South Northamptonshire Council.

"It's great to have a young exciting piano teacher that gets the best out of our boys every lesson"

Nicola Taylor. (James age 7 and Harvey age 9)

“Amy is enthusiastic and passionate about music and this was then mirrored by the children. All the children participated and thoroughly enjoyed the day! The proof was definitely in the pudding as the children had produced a great song to download on iTunes. Highly recommended.”

Miss Rogers, Year 4/5 teacher at Kislingbury Primary School

“My son has been having lessons with Amy over the past few months and has been enjoying them greatly.  He has said that what makes them good is the fact that Amy finds out about what music he is into and works with him to choose pieces he wants to learn and enjoys.  He also thinks she is a really kind and happy teacher.  As a parent I am delighted to have a son who wants to go to lessons and will do some practice without me prompting and to see his pleasure with what he is learning.  Thanks Amy.”

Jan Rydon

“Amy Clayton is our piano and keyboard teacher at Towcester Rockschool where she is very popular with both our students and their parents. She encourages all students to reach their individual goals whilst making their lessons both interesting and fun. At Rockschool she teaches classical and modern music, rock and pop and can prepare students for Grade Exams from Debut/Initial through to Grade 8 with the ABRSM, Trinity Guildhall or Rockschool boards of music.

She also works with keyboard players in our bands, preparing them for public performances in concerts and gigs. Her versatility and musicality is greatly appreciated by us all at Rockschools.”

Ros Miles – Rockschools.

“Amy is both professional and friendly as a teacher. She has knack for explaining the areas and techniques needed to work on in an accessible way that means I can act on them immediately. Amy is also keen to keep my enthusiasm for and enjoyment of my instruments by recognising the styles of music that I enjoy playing. She is constantly challenging me to better myself by performing in concerts and entering exams. I thoroughly enjoy my Piano and Clarinet lessons with Amy, and my confidence and ability have improved greatly since taking lessons with her”

Liz Carey
(Clarinet Grade 7 and Piano Grade 5)

“I really enjoyed my piano lessons with Amy. Because my English was not so good it was tricky at times, but Amy was very kind and patient with me. I am so thankful for that!”

Andrea Varadi (Piano)

“Amy is a natural teacher; she has a warm and friendly manner, which put me at my ease. Her lessons are challenging but in a positive way, as the learning curve for a beginner is very steep. My progress has been rapid and very noticeable, which is a great motivator. Amy's style of teaching is full of positive praise as well as having an open mind to encourage and develop ideas for teaching and learning, responding to the individual's needs. Amy also has excellent communication skills, regularly keeping in touch by telephone, text or email. I have enormous respect for Amy as a young, patient and professional teacher, who clearly enjoys playing piano herself and has a natural ability to pass her knowledge and enthusiasm onto her students”

Melanie Gambrill (Piano)
